Writing Prompts

I've been slowly chugging along with this draft. I skipped ahead quite a bit because I was running out of steam with the original flow. I basically know what I want to occur in the entire book, but having it in your head as a general outline and writing it down (or in this case typing) is an entirely different thing. I really want to get it right.

Instead I've jumped to a section that I love. It's full of action and danger, which is the most fun to write.

A big change that I've made going into the second book is that the point of view is not from the same character. It has switched to a secondary character who is basically with Saehan (the original protagonist from the first book) but it added a different perspective. I decided to do this - even though I had begun writing from her point of view - because I wanted to offer a different story than what could be told with her state of mind.

The change of personality - as well as world experience, and secrets - is refreshing. I love writing from this character's perspective because they are a lot more carefree than Saehan. My issue, however, is that while this new protagonist is all about the relaxed way of life, it's had to maintain that and have Saehan come across as a strong, focused character, instead of stuck up or demanding.

My struggle moving forward, and through the editing process, will be to find a way to keep Saehan's personality consistent.

There is not much I can say about this topic because I personally don't like writing prompts. I find that most of the ideas I come up with them are very flat. Whenever we were supposed to create material using them in any of my classes, I would usually try to fit a story I had already thought up with the prompt instead of the other way around.

However, I wanted to use this opportunity to share with you a podcast called Writing Excuses. If you've never heard of a podcast it is basically pre-recorded radio. They have episodes that will usually last around twenty minutes. This specific podcast is put on by Brandon Sanderson with a few others, and Sanderson is my favourite author. He is very well spoken and good at explaining his thoughts. These episodes go into detail about everything from writing a manuscript to getting it published.

Essentially once you have listened to one of those episodes you will realize that everything they produce is a hundred times better than any advice I can give you.

I love to listen to them when I'm on the bus for a long period of time. I find that it hard to concentrate in those situations and something like this is easy to follow.
